My Approach

Individual Sessions

We are all individuals with our own unique experiences, that is why my approach as an Integrative Therapist means recognising and sensitively working on what you need as an individual. My practice is predominantly Person-Centred, but I combine this with working Psychodynamically.

Building a deep, trusting relationship with clients is the most important factor for me. I want to ensure that you feel comfortable, understood, and respected. We’ll work at a pace that feels right for you, and I’ll be clear about what’s happening in our sessions.

We will focus on creating an environment where you feel physically and emotionally safe. Therapy is a place where you are in control of the process. We won’t rush or push you to talk about anything before you’re ready.

Pregnancy/ Perinatal Sessions

Being a new mum can be an incredibly challenging time, we can often feel judgement and expectations of ourselves and from society that pregnancy and motherhood should feel a certain way.  We can have a whole number of questions – Why is being a new parent not what I expected? Why haven’t I bonded with my baby? Why do I feel so sad? Does my baby like me? Why does my baby cry all the time? Am I doing it right?

I can work with you to explore both conscious and unconscious factors within your relationship with your baby. Often these factors are influenced by our own experience of our own childhood and how we were parented.   We may often want to replicate these experiences or feel we want our baby to have better experiences than we had. By understanding how our own experiences influence the unique ways in which you and your little one interact, you will be able to begin strengthening and growing that vital bond between you.

Having a safe, confidential space, with no judgement just for you and your baby where you can express your frustrations, sadness, anxiety, anger - or whatever it is that's affecting your happiness as a new mum can feel a release to many new mums.

Dads

Pregnancy and the perinatal period for new dads can be very much overlooked.

Therapy can be incredibly beneficial for dads during the perinatal period, offering vital support as they navigate the profound changes of fatherhood. This time can bring a mix of joy, anxiety, and stress, as many fathers feel pressure to support their partners, adapt to new responsibilities, and cope with their own emotions. Therapy provides a safe space for dads to explore their feelings, process worries, and develop strategies for managing stress. It can also enhance communication with their partners, helping to foster a stronger, more supportive family environment. Ultimately, therapy empowers dads to better care for themselves and their families during this transformative period.
